Leave Types

To view, add or customise Leave Types, select System > Leave Types from the Marlin HR menu.
Shown below is a list of typical Leave Types, each with the typically selected settings.
Only "accruable" leave types should be created as a leave type. Other leave types that are either unpaid or are only available to the employee under particular circumstances, should not be created as a leave type and do not require a leave entry to be entered when the employee takes that leave. These will be paid as an earnings type which can be added to an initialised pay run.
If you don't have one of the Leave Types listed above, you can create it by following the How to set up various types of leave procedure below and selecting the values as shown in the table above.
The settings shown above are examples only and may be different to your requirements. We strongly recommend that you check with your employer organisation or tax accountant for the correct settings for your workplace.
You may or may not wish to print Long Service Leave or Personal Leave on Pay Advices, or to maintain an accounting accrual for Personal Leave in your General Ledger.
How to set up various types of leave
The following types of leave are accrued by employess and therefore require both a leave type and an earnings type to be set up for them:
- Annual Leave (With / Without Loading)
- Personal Leave (Sick & Carer's Leave)
- Long Service Leave
- Rostered Days Off
The following types of leave are not accrued by employess and therefore only require an earnings type to be set up for them:
- Public Holidays
- Compassionate Leave (aka Bereavement Leave)
- Parental Leave (Maternity & Parental Leave)
- Community Service Leave
- Leave Without Pay
- Workers Compensation
- Time In Lieu
