Article summary

As Compassionate Leave is not accrued like annual leave, sick leave, or long service leave, it is an Earnings type rather than a Leave type and you therefore do not need to create leave entries to pay it.

Setting Up Compassionate Leave

To check whether Compassionate Leave is setup as paid leave or included in the Superannuation calculation, select System > Earnings from the main menu, select Compassionate Leave and view the details.

This method is preferable to just reducing the employee's Standard Hours as the Compassionate Leave hours will appear on the Pay Advice and the total hours will be the same as normal.

This can help avoid any confusion in the future.

If Compassionate Leave does not already exist as an Earnings type in your system, you will need to add it.

Please refer to the video tutorial Managing Payroll Transaction Types below.

Paying Compassionate Leave

Initialise the pay run as normal.

Select the employee.

Select Earnings and enter the employee's Standard Hours, Time & Half and Double Time as normal (remembering to subtract the hours they were absent).

Click on the +Add button below those hours and select Compassionate Leave from the drop down list.

Enter the appropriate number of hours.

Process the rest of the pay run as normal.
