Article summary

From time to time Megabus will release an update to the Marlin HR program.

Typically, this is to:

  • Add enhancements to the program.
  • Fix any bugs identified in the program.
  • Maintain compliance (e.g. with ATO requirements).

It is important to install updates as soon as possible, especially near the end of the tax year as the update may address changes in ATO requirements to ensure that the STP submissions from your EOY close-off process and pay runs in the new tax year submit the correct data in the correct format to the ATO.

How to get an Update

Each time you start Marlin HR it checks to see whether there is an update available.

If so, it automatically and silently downloads the update in the background (it normally takes under 10 minutes depending upon your internet connection). Once an update has finished downloading, a prompt will popup to notify you that it is available and ask whether you would like to install it now.

Click on the Yes button to install the update.

Updates normally take under 1 minute to install and will display the following messages when complete.

Click on the Close button and then start Marlin HR as normal.

Note

If you see an error message instead of the success message, please notify Megabus immediately and do not click on the Close button (you can continue to work in other programs in the meantime).

Am I on the latest version?

Your currently installed version is displayed in the bottom left hand corner, beneath the Navigator tab.

To see whether there are later versions available, click on the Release Notes page.

Not getting an Update prompt?

Try browsing to other websites to confirm that you don't currently have a network or internet problem from this PC (Your internet connection must be working for updates to download).

Check the Release Notes page to see whether you are already on the latest version.

If there is an update available and your internet is working fine on this PC but you aren't getting an update prompt, please contact the Megabus Support Team for assistance.

Does the Update not install successfully?

This could be due to several reasons.

Your anti-virus software is incorrectly identifying part of Marlin HR as a virus and quarantining it.

You, your IT person or Megabus will need to retrieve the quarantined file and create a rule in the anti-virus software to "allow" the Marlin HR file(s).

Pervasive (the database manager used by Marlin GTX and Marlin HR) is holding files open.

This can happen if your machines (including Master PC) are not rebooted regularly.

Close Marlin HR on all machines and re-try the update.

Close Marlin GTX and Marlin HR on all machines then reboot the Master PC and the PC on which you login to Marlin HR (if not the Master).

Then re-try the update.

If you were running the update from a user PC, close Marlin HR and any error popups and then try running the HR update on the Master PC.

An issue with the Marlin HR update itself.
