Backups

Prev Next

Marlin GTX enables automated and manual backups of data, with online and offline storage to protect trading information.

Each time you perform an End of Day close-off, GTX will automatically perform a full backup to your hard disk (usually in the Master PC).

It will then prompt you to insert a USB drive and copy the backup to that portable device, so that you can store a copy of your trading information in a secure offsite location.

Note

GTX systems on remote Megabus Hosted Servers (MHS) are automatically backed up each night and do not require additional USB backups.

Tip

Our Shieldcare 365 Workgroup Packup plan automatically backs up application data and other documents (including Word, Excel and image files) to cloud storage.

Automatic Backups

Some stores have an automatic backup system that backs up everything on their server (including GTX and HR) overnight.

In this instance, GTX may be configured not to ask you to insert a USB drive during End of Day close-off.

If you are unsure whether your information is being backed up adequately, please please contact the Megabus Support Team.

Warning

In the event of fire, flood, theft, virus/malware attack or hard disk crash of your master GTX PC, offline backups are the only way to restore your trading information.

Backup Configuration

To check your backup configuration, select Tools > Backups from the menu bar (or double-click on the Backups status indicator at the bottom-right of the GTX window)

The Backups screen will open showing a list of performed backups.

The Online and Offline columns at far right should both have Yes against each backup:

  • If not, there may be a problem with the backup configuration
  • Don't worry if older backups have No, as long as the most recent backups have Yes

To check the configuration:

  • Click on the Backup Settings (cogs) icon at the top.

The Configure Backup Options pop-up will open:

  • The top field should normally be \mbackup, with no drive letter in front of it
    • This ensures the online backups are saved on the PC GTX is installed on
  • The drive letter entered into the Directory for Offline Storage field will depend on your PC
  • same for remote

    • Insert a USB drive, wait a few seconds for Windows to recognise it,
    • Enter the appropriate drive letter when known

End of Year Backups

A backup of all data for the financial year is performed during the End of Year close-off process.

Note

We recommend a separate USB drive be used for this than the usual daily-backup one.

Manual Backup

Manual backups are not normally required, since End of Day backups are performed automatically.

However, you can perform a manual backup for additional security, if desired.

To perform a manual backup:

  • Close all modules that are open in GTX
  • Select Tools > Backups > Backup from the menu bar
(Or, double-click on the Backups tab at the bottom of the GTX window)

Click on the Run Backup button (green arrow) at the top of the module window.

In the Backup pop-up that opens:

  • Click on the Start button
