Following the Review of Merchant Card Payment Costs and Surcharging, the Reserve Bank of Australia has ruled that surcharges on debit card and credit card payments will no longer be permitted from 1 October 2026.

This new ruling applies to all card types, including EFTPOS, Mastercard, Visa, American Express and any other card payment methods.
Disabling All Surcharges
Surcharges can be disabled across your entire Marlin system by disabling the CustomerOrder.EnableSurcharges Enterprise Setting.
To disable all surcharges:
- Select System > Company > Settings from the menu bar

- Locate CustomerOrder.EnableSurcharges setting
- Untick the checkbox to the right

Disabling Individual Surcharges
To disable individual surcharges:
- Select Master Files > Accounts > Bank Accounts from the menu bar

- Open the relevant bank accounts(s) in Edit mode
- Using the EFT Types list at the bottom:
- Remove the Customer Surcharge Rate and Surcharge Account for all relevant EFT types
- Click Save
- Repeat for all relevant bank accounts and EFT types

You need to disable surcharges for all card payment types.
Merchant fees are not affected by the decision and can remain as they are.
