# Price Markups

**{{variable.GTX Bold}}** enables complex product prices to be automatically updated using markups.

A markup can be either an **amount** or a **percentage** that is added to an item’s normal cost, special cost, last cost, supplier list, or average cost.

[Markup groups](/gtx/docs/price-markups#markup-groups) contain calculation rules such as amount or percentage, base cost, ranges and rounding.

[Markup sets](/gtx/docs/price-markups#markup-sets) brings the different markup groups together (one per price type) into a single structure that can then be assigned to [individual products](/gtx/docs/price-markups#individual-products), [product groups](/gtx/docs/price-markups#product-groups) and [product supergroups](/gtx/docs/price-markups#product-supergroups).

These prices are then automatically applied when adding products to orders and invoices.

:::(Info) (Note)
In **centralised systems**, markups can only be added and assigned at the head office.
:::

## Markup Groups

**Markup groups** need to be added first, because they are used to build markup sets.

They define the **dollar amounts** or **percentages** by which prices are calculated.

**Cost ranges** can also be assigned to markup groups so that the markup added to an item depends on its cost.

Markup groups can be viewed and edited by selecting **System > System Files > Products > Markup Groups** from the menu bar.

<ss title="Marlin GTX Markup Groups" alt="Marlin GTX Markup Groups">![8FD3241E-F0AD-4FE1-B47F-CE565B722E40.png](https://cdn.document360.io/d7282b31-60c4-41e6-bf87-3f684d4da049/Images/Documentation/8FD3241E-F0AD-4FE1-B47F-CE565B722E40.png)</ss>

### Adding Markup Groups
#### System > System Files > Products > Markup Groups

New markup groups can be added by clicking on the **{{glossary.Add}}** button at the top of the Markup Groups window.

<ss title="Marlin GTX Add Markup Group" alt="Marlin GTX Add Markup Group">![5363A413-833F-4A4D-8678-C4E72D9F433B.png](https://cdn.document360.io/d7282b31-60c4-41e6-bf87-3f684d4da049/Images/Documentation/5363A413-833F-4A4D-8678-C4E72D9F433B.png)</ss>

The **Add Markup** window will open.

<ss title="Marlin GTX Add Markup Window" alt="Marlin GTX Add Markup Window">![C106D34E-5B2F-44D2-B24F-56D5E856C726.png](https://cdn.document360.io/d7282b31-60c4-41e6-bf87-3f684d4da049/Images/Documentation/C106D34E-5B2F-44D2-B24F-56D5E856C726%281%29.png)</ss>

**In the Details tab:**
* Enter a unique **Code** and **Name** to identify the markup.
* **Base Price with SOH:** Starting cost for calculating prices for products with stock on hand
* **Base Price no SOH:** Starting cost for calculating prices for products without stock on hand
* **Amount:**
  * **If cost ranges will not be used:** Enter dollar amount or percentage to be added to the starting cost
  * **If cost ranges will be used** Leave blank
* **Calculation Method:** Select whether the amount should be applied as a percentage, added as a dollar mount or as a percentage of the gross profit margin
>It would make a lot more sense if this came before the amount part - add a ticket?
* **Rounding Type:** Select up, down or none
* **Rounding Amount:** Enter the amount to round to using the method selected above
    * **Example:** To round to the nearest 10 dollars, enter "10"

**[Cost ranges](/gtx/docs/price-markups#cost-ranges)** can also be assigned to markup groups so that the markup added to an item depends on its cost.

### Cost Ranges
#### System > System Files > Products > Markup Groups > [Markup Group]

Cost ranges can be added to markup group by clicking on the **{{glossary.Add}}** button above the Cost Ranges list at the bottom of its Details tab.

<ss title="Marlin GTX Add Cost Range" alt="Marlin GTX Add Cost Range">![624213B4-ECD6-4448-BD24-1C30A33149BF.png](https://cdn.document360.io/d7282b31-60c4-41e6-bf87-3f684d4da049/Images/Documentation/624213B4-ECD6-4448-BD24-1C30A33149BF.png)</ss>

The **Add Cost range** pop-up will open.

<ss title="Marlin GTX Cost Range Example" alt="Marlin GTX Cost Range Example">![image.png](https://cdn.document360.io/d7282b31-60c4-41e6-bf87-3f684d4da049/Images/Documentation/image-G65MAJCM.png)</ss>

**In the pop-up:**
* Enter the **Maximum Cost** to define the range
* Enter the **Markup Amount** to apply to all costs below that amount
    * The fields will be % or $ depending on the **Calculation Method** selected previously
* Click **Ok**
* **Repeat** as required

:::

:::(Warning) (Warning)
**Do not leave gaps in cost ranges:** Ensure the maximum cost for the highest cost range is greater than the highest cost of any product assigned to the markup group.
:::

When you are finished adding Cost ranges, click on the **{{glossary.Save}}** button at the top of the module window.

## Markup Sets

**Markup sets** link price types, such as retail or wholesale, to [markup groups](/gtx/docs/price-markups#markup-groups).

One all-encompassing markup set can be added, or **multiple sets** can be defined based on product types or brands.

:::(Error) (Example)
**Markups might be applied by:**
* Assigning the same markup set to **all products**
* Assigning different markup sets to groups of **similar products**, such as tyres, wheels and batteries.
* Assigning different markups to brands within a **[product group](https://help.megabus.com.au/gtx/docs/product-groups)**
:::

Markup sets can be viewed and edited by selecting **System > System Files > Products > Markup Sets** from the menu bar.

<ss title="Marlin GTX Markup Sets" alt="Marlin GTX Markup Sets">![910941F9-7C8E-4A9C-B860-618618E5784E.png](https://cdn.document360.io/d7282b31-60c4-41e6-bf87-3f684d4da049/Images/Documentation/910941F9-7C8E-4A9C-B860-618618E5784E.png)</ss>
