# Maintainers
{{variable.GTX Bold}} uses Maintainers to control who can edit each of the fields within a module.
**There are three types of Maintainers:**
* **System Maintained:** Automatically maintained by GTX and can only be edited by Megabus for example Average Cost or Quantity on Hand.
* **Locally Maintained:** Can be updated by users with edit permissions.
* **Non-Locally Maintained:** Managed by authorised external systems for example head office.

Fields with a **key** symbol next to them cannot be edited.

Relevant modules will contain a [Maintainers tab](/gtx/docs/maintainers#maintainers-tabs) showing the maintainers for the different fields.
## Maintainers Tabs
The **Maintainers** tabs in maintenance and other files show who is responsible for maintaining the fields within the relevant module.
**Non-Locally Maintained** fields usually also show who is responsible for maintaining them.

You might need to click on the **right navigator arrow** to reveal the maintainers tab if the amount of tabs overflows your display.

The **checkboxes** at the top of the Maintainers tab can be used to hide and show the different maintainer types.
